7 questions to settle before you share a holiday home

Elia Ritzmann

Sharing a holiday home goes well when a few things are clear from the start. Talk through these seven before the first season, and you avoid most of the friction later.

1. Who decides on the busy dates?

Christmas, the first week of summer, a big birthday. Decide now how you split the weekends everyone wants.

2. How do we add a stay?

First come first served, or does someone approve? Either works. Not deciding is what causes the clashes.

3. What are the running costs, and who pays?

Cleaning, utilities, small repairs. Agree on how they are shared before a bill lands.

4. What is the standard for leaving it?

Bins, laundry, dishes, heating off. A shared idea of “clean” keeps it fair.

5. Can we bring friends?

Sometimes the tension is not family, it is the guests of family. Set it once.

6. Who handles problems on site?

A blocked drain at 9pm needs a name and a number, not a group chat.

7. Where does all this live?

A calendar in one head and rules in another do not hold. Pick one shared place for the dates, the info, and the plan.

That last one is where Casana fits: a shared calendar, the house info, and checklists in a single app, so the answers to the other six stay somewhere everyone can see.
